The Supreme Court will today hear the plea seeking a stay of the investigation into the Gyanvapi Mosque compound in Varanasi. A bench, headed by Judge DY Chandrachud, will hear the Anjuman Intezamia Masajid committee’s plea on Tuesday. The three-day court-supervised video investigation of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple complex and Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi ended on Monday. As the investigation was completed, the Hindu petitioner in the case, Sohan Lal Arya, claimed on Monday that the committee had found a Shivling at the compound. Arya, who accompanied the judicial commission for the inquiry into the mosque, said he had found “conclusive evidence”.
The regiment which fiercely defended a steel mill as Ukraine’s last stronghold in the port city of Mariupol completed its mission on Monday after more than 260 fighters, some seriously injured, were evacuated and taken to areas under Russian control, Ukrainian officials said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the evacuation to separatist-held territory was done to save the lives of fighters who endured weeks of Russian assaults in the maze of underground passages under the towering Azovstal steelworks. He said the seriously injured were receiving medical aid.
