His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC), today crowned the winners of the 13th edition of the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards, held on the sidelines of the 17th Conference Dubai Sports International at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai.
As part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, the 17th Dubai International Sports Conference, organized by the DSC under the slogan “The Road to Championships”, brought together key global football stakeholders for a dialogue on the future of sports. The prestigious 13th edition of the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards honored the sport’s outstanding athletes in 16 categories.
Also present at the awards ceremony were His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Vice President of DSC; His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of DSC; and other senior officials from government and sports bodies.
Adriano Galliani, former CEO of Italian club AC Milan and current CEO of Serie A club Monza, has won the award for best career executive director. Sergio Ramos, a former Spanish and Real Madrid star and current player for French club Paris Saint-Germain, has been voted defender of the year. The career best player award was won by former Brazil star Romario, former Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney, and AC Milan and Sweden national team star Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Egyptian national team and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah have won the TikTok Fans’ Player of the Year award.
France star and Real Madrid captain Karim Benzema has been named the Dubai Globe Soccer Player of the Year. Napoli player Victor Osimhen has been voted Young Player of the Year. Barcelona midfielder Alexia Putellas has won the Dubai Globe Soccer Player of the Year award. Florentino Perez, president of Real Madrid, has been named club president of the year. Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti has been named Coach of the Year. Didier Drogba, the former star of Chelsea and the Ivory Coast national team, has won the CNN Off The Pitch Award. They received the awards remotely.
Johnny Claft won the Talent Scout of the Year award. Rafaela Pimenta has won the award for Transfer Deal of the Year. Jorge Mendes was named Agent of the Year. Paolo Maldini and Frédéric Massara have been named sporting directors of the year. The Women’s Club of the Year went to Olympique Lyonnais Football Club, while Real Madrid won the Men’s Club of the Year.
René Ramos won the best player-career agent award. Unai Emery, Aston Villa head coach, has been named best career manager. José Ángel Sánchez, CEO of Real Madrid, has been named CEO of the year.
The event began with a morning session on talent retention and development at the Dubai Sports Council headquarters. Rui Costa, star of the former Portuguese national team and Italian clubs Fiorentina and AC Milan, and current president of SL Benfica; and Unai Emery, the former manager of Valencia, Sevilla, Villarreal, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, and the current manager of Aston Villa; the famous Italian coach Fabio Capello; and Julian Ward, Liverpool’s sporting director, took part in the session and shared their views.
An evening session entitled “The Road to Championships” brought together for the first time two of the most famous European and international footballers on the same stage. Sergio Ramos, former captain of the Spanish national team and Real Madrid and current defender of Paris Saint-Germain, and giant striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, star of the Swedish national team and many big European clubs, and current striker of the Italian club AC Milan spoke about the role of experienced players in developing the technical and mental skills of their young squad members. The session shed light on the players’ role in creating a team with the personality of a champion and the ability to win the most important titles. The pair also discussed how talented players face challenges early in their careers.
