Self-locking cities, the work of fools
There is now chaos in the world and the way each government wants to deal with this chaos is different. However, the countries that have real crisis management are in many ways the ones that have avoided the mess caused by Covid-19.
But the most interesting example is not Haiti or Afghanistan – just kidding – but Sweden.
The point of this article is to say that we need to take more than a leaf out of Sweden’s book when some parts of our country are going through this utterly ridiculous phase of self-containment.
Those who lock themselves in by closing shops and so on of their own accord in some cities these days are fools. They are idiots of a particular variety.
Talking about Sweden would probably get that message across in the best way that would expose such lockdown freaks.
This year’s Global Soft Power Index, which asked respondents how they rate each country’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, ranks Sweden a fantastic number 13 in a list of all countries in the world.
Sweden was, initially in particular, extremely controversial in its response to Covid-19. It is a nation that scoffed at the lockdown consensus and had very relaxed rules around Covid-19 from the start. Think about it.
While most countries around the world have locked themselves in to varying degrees of severity, Sweden has never done this and instead sought collective immunity early in 2020, when Covid-19 vaccines weren’t even not heard.
Note that Sweden ranks 8th in the World Soft Power Index and additionally is ranked 13th, which is excellent, especially for effective management of Covid-19.
Sweden’s response to the pandemic can be described as “gentle”. There were no onerous measures, as the Swedish Constitution prohibits in the first place declaring an emergency in the event of a pandemic or health crisis. “Swedish authorities have made it clear that managing the Covid-19 pandemic will not be a sprint but a marathon, a long-term endeavor.
Thus, policies must be designed at a level acceptable to the population over a long period of time, ”writes a researcher from Sage Publications.
So compare the Swedish approach with the mania some people have here to lock down and call for “self-locking” stores in various cities.
Just digest this – in those two years of Covid-19, Sweden has never once closed bars, restaurants, gyms, etc. There was no restriction on personal mobility. Think about it.
Never in the past two years, as the world went mad over Covid-19, has Sweden imposed restrictions on civil liberties or the ability of people to move from one place to another, to the interior of the country.
Instead, the country has relied on ‘soft’ daily voluntary measures such as proper social distancing and so on.
However, these Scandinavians have behaved so well that it is now clear that the world admires Sweden – the country being perceived as the 13th best in the world at containing Covid-19, which, needless to say, is a very high rank. high in any type of global index.
This is why we have to throw Sweden on all the JVP type crooks like Harini whoever it is, the Jenny who came in lately who when teachers walked said provincial travel restrictions were in place to limit protests – but now claims the government is responsible for every Covid-19 death that occurs, suggesting the country is on lockdown.
The JVP keeps crying out for containment and supports these so-called new “self-locking” trends in cities.
14,000 people have died from Covid-19 in Sweden since the start of the pandemic in 2020, according to statistics. This is far more than the 5,000 and above to date in Sri Lanka, but yet the Swedes are estimated to have the 13th best response to the Covid-19 crisis.
Why is that ? This is because the country has not fallen into chaos by restricting civil liberties. Out of a population of over 10 million, the Swedes essentially considered the estimated 14,000 deaths from Covid-19 as a normal course, as this is still a very tiny percentage of the overall population.
But failing to lock down the country has earned the respect of unconventional Scandinavians, especially for the calm sense of self-assurance the policies have engendered.
After all it’s not just me, the author of this article, saying the Swedes were cool about Covid-19. The whole world believes Sweden has had one of the best responses to Covid-19. Think about it.
This serves as an object lesson to the maniacs here who never tire of shouting “lost human lives are not worth a working economy,” and absolute idiots like that.
The Covid-19 has been a balancing act for the Swedes. Nobody lost the sense of balance, that is to say in the country, because the leaders did not lose their heads just because the rest of the world lost theirs.
The country has fared better than any country in the EU during the duration of the pandemic economically, so think about that too. This was of course precisely because of Sweden’s relaxed approach against lockdown and civil liberties to contain the virus.
Someone could point to New Zealand and say that Jacinda Arden, the Prime Minister, has locked the country down this week because of a single case in Auckland.
It’s good for New Zealand. Even if it seems futile as a countermeasure, it is quite acceptable for the country because the economy can resist it.
However, the Swedish economy made WellPoint without any foreclosures, and which of those countries should the less wealthy Sri Lanka follow in this context?
No price for guessing. All of this self-containment hysteria is so completely and transparently selfish. If a government like Sweden’s has never been locked up and can be admired around the world as the 13th best performer in the world when it comes to Covid-19, the screaming panic-mongers here shouldn’t get their underwear in. a twist on the mortality statistics which are still much lower than that of Sweden.
Think about it too. We’ve done better so far than Sweden in terms of numbers – the death toll from Covid-19 – but our experts believe we can’t keep up with the 13th best nation by avoiding lockdown. Not only that, they can’t stop talking about Covid-19.
These experts need to know where to get off. If various actors try to panic the masses about the so-called ‘bad situation of Covid-19’, you can throw Sweden, a developed industrialized country at them anytime.
It’s repeated – if Swedes are the 13th most admired in the world to tackle Covid-19, with 14,000 deaths so far, why is Sri Lanka panicking with just over 5,000 deaths due to Covid-19 in a population of 22 million?
The problem is, we let people panic. Sweden has never allowed all of Tom Dick and Harriets to freak people out and keep saying “hey what a massive crisis we are in”.
Either way, they never locked, so a lockdown mindset was out of the question, and naturally people got too busy to think about Covid-19.
Is saying that we should be like Sweden a case of insensitivity to the fact that people are getting sick with the virus in this country, some are dying from it? Yes they do get sick and some never get well, but it’s always something that can be managed if the proper attention is given to home care etc.
This is how Sweden handled the crisis, at least in part. But in Sweden, they did not feel at all that it was a crisis, while our media and social spaces are overflowing with it.
Sweden is seen as the 13th in the world when it comes to responding well to the Covid-19 crisis, to put it once again wisely.
14,000 people there have reportedly died from Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic, but they have not become catatonic. They didn’t imprison themselves above all else by locking up and imprisoning their minds thinking 24/7 about the virus.
They have not let this thing rule every aspect of their lives – and repeat, as a result, they are the best performing economy in the EU.
Other European countries also have a similar death toll, but they have almost crushed their economies.
Either way, it takes a long time and a lot of effort for a European economy to collapse. This is not the case here in South Asia.
That’s what those lockdown freaks and other panicked jack-in-the-box types should think about before they fuck each other and make life difficult for everyone.
