What is “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” about, the Aryan Khan book transported to the NCB office?
Aryan, the son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, appeared outside the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) office in Mumbai on Friday to mark his weekly presence in connection with the cruise ship drug case. This is considered the star kid’s first public appearance after his release from Arthur Road Prison on October 30. Photos of Aryan which went viral on social media and other media showed him wearing a white t-shirt with a yellow jacket over it and a pair of jeans. He was also accompanied by his father’s bodyguard. But hawk-eyed netizens discovered that Aryan was also wearing a copy of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”
The book and the film that followed garnered considerable attention for being a pop culture hit because the book was an international bestseller and the film performed well as well. But for those unfamiliar with the novel, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” is a Swedish psychological thriller written by author and journalist Stieg Larsson. However, it was released posthumously in 2005. The book spawned two sequels – “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest”. All three books together form the millennium trilogy. Larsson had said the novel’s plot was based on an incident that happened when he was 15. He had remained there when three men had sexually assaulted an acquaintance in front of him.
Larsson said he was filled with guilt and asked for her forgiveness but she refused. Years later, he defined his protagonist based on this woman, who was called Lisbeth. Inspired by the events, Larrson created a character named Lisbeth who is a rape survivor in her novel. The truth behind the novel was called into question after Larsson’s death when a colleague at Expo magazine told Rolling Stone magazine that Larsson confided that he had not witnessed the incident but that someone else had told him the story and told it as his own.
Additionally, Larsson was also inspired to write the novel by the murder of a Swedish sex worker named Catrine da Costa. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was later adapted into a film in 2011 starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara.
Aryan Khan was arrested by the BCN on October 3. He was then released on bail by the Bombay High Court on October 28. However, the delayed documents related to his release delayed his release from prison by more than a day. As of Friday, the High Court released its enforcement order imposing 14 bail conditions on Aryan Khan and his co-defendants in the case, Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha, who were also released on bail.
